Romance often begins by a splashing waterfall and ends over a leaky sink.

Today’s Friday Photo is from one of my favorite and most photogenic places: Zion National Park. Menu Falls is the name of the wonderful falls on display here. They are one of the somewhat undocumented, ‘easter egg’ spots in the park. You get the feeling of being in a tropical rain forest here, yet the falls are just a very short distance from the park’s Scenic Drive road where the Virgin River roars.

We came upon these falls during a conversation with one of the rangers, while discussing unique places to visit in Zion. The falls are so named named because a photo of the falls was used on the cover of the original menu for the Zion Lodge in the early 1900s. Hence the name ‘Menu Falls‘.

There’s no sign for Menu Falls and getting here requires a 1/2 mile walk east of the Big Bend shuttle stop. The walk is easy and takes you right along the side of the Scenic Drive road that runs throughout the park. From there, you’ll need to look across the road for a small alcove and some stair rails that lead to the falls. Once you’ve taken it all in, you can then proceed back to the road and follow a small single track trail along the Virgin River. This trail will take you all the way the Temple of Sinawa shuttle stop. Another experience that gets some light use.
